CHUP, with more than two centuries of history and recent integrations, has gathered a remarkable cultural and scientific heritage, which motivated the development of the project "Museum of Centro Hospitalar do Porto” (MCHP) in 2007. At that time, a comprehensive survey of the existing collection was performed at Hospital de Santo António, followed by reinforcement of the collections of Hospital Maria Pia and Maternidade Júlio Dinis, Hospital Joaquim Urbano (HJU), and Centro de Genética Médica Dr. Jacinto Magalhães.

MCHP opened its exhibition area and administrative facilities on October 1, 2013, after the requalification work of Botica Oitocentista of Hospital Real de Santo António with in situ musealization of the pharmaceutical area "Public Room" and reconstruction of Hospital Joaquim Urbano’s Pharmacy.
