One of the goals of Centro Hospitalar is to offer their patients the opportunity to participate in research with high-quality standards, particularly interventional studies as clinical trials. DEFI supports clinical trials with investigational therapies (phase I to IV) and medical devices, as well as observational studies. The institution is autonomous in the implementation and follow-up of commercially sponsored clinical trials, investigator-initiated trials, and pharmacovigilance studies.

Clinical Trial Unit

The Clinical Trial Unit is organized as a centralized structure providing management support to clinical departments of the institution in order to facilitate the commitment and joint effort of their clinical research, nursing, and laboratory teams. The Unit supports Hospital de Santo António, the Outpatient Consultation at CICAP, and Centro Materno-Infantil do Norte. Its structure fosters an accurate study implementation abiding by the best clinical practice. One of the Unit’s aims is to stimulate clinical research with integration of care activity.

The Unit comprises a qualified team of health professionals, a Clinical Manager, and Study Coordinators. It further relies on the integrated support of Financial Managers and on a consolidated cooperation with the Pharmaceutical Services.
